How long have you been competing?

When I was 14 years old, I performed in my first relay triathlon with my father and a team-mate of his. Since then I’ve fallen for triathlon. By now, I am competing for over 6 years!

Where do you call home?

Home means to me a place where I can be myself. This is my parents’ home, the house of my parents in low, and at the triathlon association in Spijkenisse (TVS’90).

Favorite event or place to practice?

My favorite event is definitely the police-triathlon in Spijkenisse. Firstly since it’s a home-competition, and secondly, because of the ambiance.

My favorite location for training is in the Dutch province Limburg. Every summer we head to Limburg with a group from our triathlon team, to do a cycling tour. It’s a beautiful place to cycle, amazing to ride in the hills: Hard pace up, and hard pace down! Also the view during the runs is tremendous.

What do you like best about your sport?

Diversity! If I lack the motivation to go for a ride, I go running. If the weather is too bad, I go  swimming. Even if I have an injury I can still train the other disciplines.

What is the strangest thing that has happened to you while doing your sport?

During a triathlon in Holten, I was picked up by a boat halfway the second swim lap. I was in the midst of the competition, maintained a good position during the swim, when all of a sudden a boat came next to me, with people shouting: “Turn around, Turn around!!”. At first I was like: “No way, I’m in my competition!”. Turned out, that it was starting to thunder. When I realized that, I turned, and was swimming back to the start. But, I was nearly at the furthest point from the shore, so  I had quite a swim ahead before I was safely back at the shore. Hence, I hopped on one of the boats. Eventually, the organization decided that there would be a restart, as a bike-run instead of a triathlon.

Do you have a claim to fame (fittest, fastest, funniest, smelliest, etc.)?

Planking-queen. During the training-weekend from our club, we had a planking competition. I managed to beat all of the guys with over 8 minutes of planking.

Do you promote an annual event or are you involved in a charitable cause?

I do not openly support any charitable cause.

Any notable recent results?

I won the police-triathlon in Spijkenisse, finished second at the triathlon in Binnenmaas, and qualified for the age-group World Championships in Rotterdam.
